This fascinating full day trip leads us to the north west of Chiloe. We’ll depart from Castro in the morning, to the “Puñihuil Islets”, where we´ll get on board for a boat trip around the three islets where each year arrive to nest together the Humboldt (Spheniscus humboldti) and the Magellanic penguins (Spheniscus magellanicus) .
Among the penguin colonies, we´ll find flightless steamer duck (Tachyeres pteneres) or the red-legged shag (Phalacrocorax gaimardi)among other birds.
Afterwards, we continue our trip on a secondary road until we reach “Chepu”, where we´ll visit an “agroturismo” to share a homemade lunch and later a soft hike into the forest will be waiting us to continue with our sighting, with good chances to observe the Chucao tapaculo (Scerolchilus rubecula) or the black-throated Huet Huet (Pteroptochos tarnii), both birds being endemic species from Patagonia.
In the afternoon we will return to Castro.
*NOTE: The boating services are delivered by the company Bahía puñihuil that provides boat trip services to Chiloetnico.
